"From what I found out after he died, he got in so far, then panicked about what he was being asked to do and tried to back out."
That quote from OoP was about Regulus but it sure fits Draco.
Bellatrix's husband and his brother both are "Rudolphus" and "Rastaban" (forgive the spellings) so we have another two potential R. A. B.
Also we could have R. Andromeda Black to stretch out on a far limb.
First Theory: Whoever R.A.B was, I think he/she took the horcrux and moved it to a new location, baby Harry.
Knowing that Voldy was going to kill the baby, someone made baby Harry a Voldy time-bomb. (A bad person - sacrificing an innocent is never nice!) Voldy attacks with the AK and instead of baby dying, we have Voldy coming down with a bad case of "less than meanest ghost."
Fearful thought: Tom put some of his soul into Ginny during the diary writing. I am fearful that when the diary was destroyed, Ginny's soul returned to her along with a hunk of Voldy.
This means our charming couple, Harry and Ginny are Voldy bookends.

Their last name is 'Lastrange', and I doubt Belatrix (in the case of R & B) would do such a thing. She seems insane very loyal to her Dark Lord.
I've read the Harry as a horcrux theory before, but that's the first time I've seen someone state that maybe RAB has something to do with it. I'm still wobbling on the basic idea, though.
I get the feeilng that RAB may not be such a nice guy, as well. Something about breaking through that cave alone makes me think there had to have been dark magic involved.
R.A.B. doesn't need to be just one person I suppose... It could very well be three seperate people. One with the initial R, one with A and one with B perhaps?

R. Amelia Bones
Nobody said Amelia was a first name, and some people do use their middle names.

It didn't hit me at first, since Regulus wasn't a main character... but suddenly it slammed into my head about an hour after I finished reading it.

And in the cub interview Jo said we pretty much know the cast for book 7. That no one big would be coming in.

MA: R.A.B.
JKR: Ohhh, good.
[All laugh.]
JKR: No, I'm glad! Yes?
MA: Can we figure out who he is, from what we know so far?
[Note: JKR has adopted slightly evil look here]
JKR: Do you have a theory?
MA: We've come up with Regulus Black.
JKR: Have you now?
MA: Uh-oh.
[Laughter.]
JKR: Well, I think that would be, um, a fine guess.
MA: And perhaps, being Sirius’s brother, he had another mirror -
JKR: [drums fingers on soda can]
MA: Does he have the other mirror, or Sirius’s mirror -
JKR: I have no comment at all on that mirror. That mirror is not on the table. [Laughter from all; Jo's is maniacal.]
MA: Let the record note that she has drummed her fingers on her Coke can in a very Mr. Burns-like way.
[Laughter.]
JKR: Oh, I love Mr. Burns.
