Very powerful. There's some wonderful phrasing here; I particularly liked this bit:

...Albus Dumbledore, now a broken heap of bones and beard and hope surrounded by the children who will do most of the dying this time.

In the film, I view this scene either as very moving or completely random, but you have definitely helped to keep the scales on "moving". Thank you.

Thanks, lyras! I agree that the scene in the film can easily read as trite, but I ended up deciding that the actors' expressions redeem it, especially McG and Pomfrey.

I like this world-weary Minerva, knowing what's to come and preparing herself for it.

Thank you ~~ I know I'd be weary, too, after three wars!

I am unutterably moved by this story and the tower of strength that is Minerva McGonagall.

oh, this is just lovely *sniffle* I love how tired Minerva is, really feeling the weight of everything, and yet still pushing forward because there's nothing else to do.

Thanks, velvetmouse; this is how I see many of those old-school, WWII-era Brits -- they push on no matter what.
