Characters and pairings: Slughorn, Snape
Rating and warnings, if any: G, just a bit of AU goodness
Prompt, if any: none, really. just an odd little "what if" scenario that popped into my head; only vaguely connected to HBP by virtue of the fact that it involves Slughorn and a young!Snape.

Ah, I'm delighted to find so many Slughorn ficlets in this challenge. The characters voices ring so true here--I love the way Slughorn contrives to lead these almost-adults along, and how Severus' sullenness vanishes so quickly, when opportunity arises. You paint them as Slytherins in the best possible way. Well done! Maggie

ETA: And I adore the exchange between Black and Evans.

Thank you! Yeah, Siri wouldn't keep his mouth shut with an opportunity like that, so.... :)

I really adore this idea! :) It would be fascinating to carry it further and see Snape actually practising. And I do like your helpful Slughorn as well.

Rock on, Sluggy! He comes across as so doddering in the movie; it's such fun to see him sharp as a tack here, conniving in a way that's generally helpful to society as well as himself. I totally want to give him a high-five right now, and I'm not generally a Slughorn fan, so kudos. :)

Thank you! Honestly, I'm not usually that much of a fan of him either, but he just seemed to have been in a perfect position to make things... different. If he wanted/saw a reason to, anyway.

Intriguing premise. I've had to wonder about Slughorn, and his role as Head of Slytherin - watching his students leave and take the Dark Mark, and how aware of that he would have been at the time.
