We should just follow Brazil's example and switch all our cars to ethanol.

Most of our cars already CAN use ethanol ;)

Mine can though I didn't find out until I read through the owners manual.

I have no idea why the car companies don't advertise this, they would look like heros

Do they sell ethanol anywhere? I don't think I've ever seen it sold at a gas station - so no supply or limited supply means it doesn't really matter whether our vehicles can use it or not. I'm betting that there's some sort of 'understanding' between Oil companies and Car companies. They certainly don't want to lose these record profits they're making at the consumers expense, and the auto companies probably don't want to rock the boat.

Actually, auto companies are probably managing to squeeze quite a number of dimes out of consumers also by taking their time on alternative fuel options. I haven't heard squat about ethanol use but I have heard a lot about hybrid cars... which cost quite a lot over a regular car and aren't widely sold.

Both industries look to the bottom line, any economic or envioronmental safeguards are an unintended side effect of them looking out for themselves :/
