I think everyone realizes this but they have the notion in their mind that it wont happen during their life time so why even bother about it. If an event doesnt directly impact an individual, they have the tendency to brush it off or completely ignore it. as to the afterlife: Everyone would like to believe in such a thing, and most do, but I think it was invented just as a comfort to people more than anything else.
Well I am pretty certain that the afterlife doesn't exist. I don't really care about that too much though.
Essentially, my primary conflict is whether I should...
A. Plunge into the depths of existential despair B. Take it easy and just enjoy life C. Keep considering the two options
I think I am going to wind up going with C. I will enjoy life and not get too concerned about all this stuff, but I think that continuing to wonder and speculate about such things is an essential part of enjoying and getting the most out of life.
I agree -- it's good to go deep, as long as you don't let it prevent you from enjoying life as it comes! C is a good option. Though "plunging into the depths of existential despair" sounds pretty awful so I'm more inclined to go with B. But as you said, it's important to wonder and speculate and all that ... just in a way other than plunging into the depths of existential despair!
