hello - I copypasted the code from the LJ comment, as dirrected, but it seems to have lost the internal table borders. Please help (I kind of fail at html, so I dunno if I did it wrong).

you didn't do anything wrong, but your journal's underlying CSS is overwriting our table code. Aside from rewriting your journal layout, there's not much we can do for you.
here's your code w/o the backgrounds, if you want to see if that works any differently.

So - if I used a different journal layout, it might work? I just kind of picked that one at random, I'm not wildly attached to it. Re-writing it seems well beyond my pretty much non-existent html skillz :(
I tried without the background, but that didn't seem to help.

If you try other layouts they might work with the table. I'm sorry I can't recommend ones that I know will work. It's more trial and error for which layouts will work with the tables and which won't. Any Expressive, Expressive winter or mixit layout will not work with the table.
Other layouts might work as well and you can check before applying them by using the preview option (the magnifying glass on the upper right corner of the style picture) on the styles page.
I received my card, but one of the items on it was one of the items I'd asked to veto--and I asked my question there, but didn't get a response (and I can only imagine how high traffic that post is, so I thought I'd ask here again)--can I just go ahead and change that square myself? Or what should I do? Because I may want to use that space to get a line for the bingo ... please let me know! thanks!
Okay, I got my card but it's only showing up at the html code on my journal page. D: I reviewed the conversation with Cordelia_gray, and changed my journal style to one of the ones suggested, but still no luck.
your code appears to be perfectly normal; could it be that you've used 'rich text editor' instead of 'html editor' when you were posting? your posting/editor window should look like this for it to read the code right.
if it won't work we'll try to figure it out further.
Sorry to be a pain, but mine is one of the codes that got lost in transit, and although I could modify the prompts from the one above, my html doesn't extend to replacing the backgrounds. Any chance of the html with the backgrounds on it? I'm happy to put my own prompts in if that would make it easier for you.
try this one? you have to copy straight from lj and not from your e-mail notification. what problems are you having with your card - i mean, how does it look when it's broken?

I tried without the background, but that didn't seem to help.
Thanks anyway!

The following style layouts are ones I think should work with the table. I'd recommend giving them a try first.
Style contest
Unearthed
3 column
Bloggish
Smooth sailing
Minimalism
Component
Quite lickable
A Novel Conundrum

Sorry we can be of more help.

to strike out the square and add the link to your fill find it's name in the code and make it look like this:
<*s><*a href="LINK TO YOUR STORY">SQUARE NAME<*/a><*/s>
(only without *s).
if you want to add the background, find the line with the CELL you need to darken out - it should look like this:
<*td width=102 height=99><*div style="text-align: center;"><*b> severe / life-threatening illness <*/b><*/div><*/td>
and add background="LINK TO THE BACKGROUND IMAGE" here: <*td width=102 height=99 background="LINK">.
makes any sense for you? :D
