Draco had arrived on the doorstep of Grimmauld place--hands outstretched and trembling--bearing with him the Slytherin horcrux.
“Let me fight for your side,” he whispered, voice cracking as Harry took the locket from his fingertips.
Now there he was, on the ground as blood spurted out of his mouth.
He thought of all the ironies in his life:
Voldemort had promised him eternal glory.
Snape had promised him protection.
Dumbledore had promised him immunity.
“Live, you git!” Harry shouted in trepidation-snapping him back to reality.
Draco had never understood why Harry wanted to save him so desperately.
He had never promised anything after all.
