They arrived on a wooden platform on a sandy beach as the sun was setting. Jason looked around, seeing the little one story cottage nearby, gauzy curtains blowing in the ocean breeze. A wooden walkway went from the platform to the house. Tim stood next to it, in his customary black, giving Jason a nod as their eyes met. He gestured to Jason's side, and Jason looked down to see a small box at his feet.
Dick sighed happily as Jason bent down to retrieve the box. "This is beautiful," he said. "Definitely not Gotham, though. I thought we were going to your universe."
"We are in my universe," Jason replied. "But I didn't want to do this in Gotham, even if it's not official."
"Do what?" Turning to look at him, Dick caught sight of Tim and smiled. "How are you, brother?" he asked. Tim hadn't been in the hub much lately, his loyalty to Ra's al Ghul keeping him in their home universe.
"I am well," Tim replied, giving Dick a hug. "Welcome to my island."
"Your island?" Dick asked incredulously.
Tim shrugged. "A getaway of sorts for me. My house is on the other end."
As Tim and Dick talked, Jason glanced in the box. They were perfect. Exactly as he'd envisioned, though he suspected, from the glint of the sunlight on them, the jewels were real, not the cubic zirconia he'd intended them to be. Leave it to the Demon's Heir to go all out on someone else's jewelry.
"So Jason asked for us to be able to use your island for us to get away?"
"Actually," Jason said, swallowing, "it's not just a get away.". He handed the box, missing one item, to Tim. "As I said, I couldn't do this in Gotham.". He held a hand out for Dick's left hand. Dick removed the forearm crutch, letting Tim hold it, and put his hand in Jason's. Jason looked down into Dick's blue eyes. This was right.
"I, Jason Peter Todd, take thee, Richard John Grayson, to be my husband, to have and to hold, to love and to cherish, to honor and adore, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, so long as we both shall live."
Dick's eyes had grown wide as Jason spoke, his mouth opening to say something, but Jason had kept speaking, afraid he would chicken out if he didn't finish the vows. He and Dick had exchanged rings before, the portal rings given to them by Dick's father, to allow them to get to and from Dick's world, but after everything, Jason felt they needed something to reconnect, to confirm their bond. But Jason knew himself, knew that any more witnesses than Tim and he would have frozen when making this commitment.
Jason slid a ring onto Dick's left ring finger, where it nestled just beyond the portal ring. Gold with a single sapphire set into the center, masculine but elegant, it gleamed in the sunset. "With this ring, I thee wed. With my body, I thee worship," he added, looking back at Dick seriously, not a leer in sight. Dick's eyes were glistening with unshod tears as he looked at Jason, then back at the ring.
"I..."
Tim nudged Dick, holding out the box. Dick looked inside, then nodded. He let his other crutch drop to the platform, straightening. Jason could tell Dick was determined to do this standing on his own two feet. He'd probably hurt later for it, but Jason wouldn't say anything, just make sure he did all he could to alleviate the pain.
Dick took a deep breath and took Jason's left hand, looking into Jason's eyes. " I, Richard John Grayson, take thee, Jason Peter Todd, to be my husband, to have and to hold, to love and to cherish, to honor and adore, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, so long as we both shall live."
Dick repeated the vows Jason had adapted for them perfectly, despite only hearing them once. Dick slid Jason's ring onto his left ring finger, below the portal ring. It was a match to Dick's ring, ruby instead of sapphire. It also lacked to inscription Dick's ring had inside. 'You finally got the hang of this Jason' it read, a reminder back to the day they'd met. Jason had left the inside of his ring blank, to let Dick choose what should be engraved there.
"With this ring, I thee wed. With my body, I thee worship." Dick looked up at Jason, love gleaming in his eyes.
"As the only person here who could count as an official of this island," Tim said softly, a smile on his face. "I declare it time to kiss the groom."
Jason chuckled, but leaned in and captured Dick's lips in a sweet, hesitant kiss that turned deeper. They were both breathing heavily when they parted, Jason's arms around Dick's body to help support him.
Tim handed Dick one of the crutches, moving to pick up the other so Dick could support himself. "The summer cottage is your for as long as you want to stay. The staff at my house knows to bring you anything you ask for. I'll be in and out," he said. He leaned into hug both Dick and Jason. "Congratulations, Jason, Dick." Tim stepped back, closed his eyes, and disappeared, likely back to the Hub. Probably using that as a way station to someplace here, either his house or someplace for the League.
"Jason," Dick said softly.
Jason leaned in to kiss Dick. "I love you," he said. "I may never be the guy to marry in a big wedding with official documents, but I wanted to show you..."
Dick cut him off with a kiss. "You didn't have to. I knew how you felt about me already. I knew we made a commitment when you put the portal ring on me."
"But now everyone will know," Jason said. "And unless I miss my guess, Tim has it taped so we can show to everyone else. Like the Pack, and your Bruce and Tim."
Dick chuckled. "Will he tape the honeymoon?" he asked, glancing at the cottage.
"If he knows what's good for him, he won't," Jason replied.
Dick laughed and leaned in to kiss Jason again, before pulling back and holding up his arms. "Carry your husband across the threshold?"
Jason's breath caught in his throat at the gesture. Dick hated to be carried, because of his legs. He saw it as a sign of weakness. For him to ask, even in a situation like this...that was a gift to Jason. Jason picked Dick up and kissed him. "As you wish, my husband. As you wish."
