A wee bit of fun for the McCormick./MacCleans

Bill was off work yesterday, and so the McCormicks decided to head to the place that we love best -- the mountains.  We drove into western North Carolina (about a 1 hour trip) and decided to stop at the Everything Scottish http://www.everythingscottish.com/ gift shop in Linville, NC, near Boone and Blowing Rock.  We have a special interest in that ( Read more... )

There is nothing like having the opportunity to hear the pipes, that music must have been embedded in my bones by my Scott ancestors.

I agree. I too have Scottish heritage (Clan MacNaughton). I can't hear "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes without fighting tears.

I sometimes go to a spiritual retreat where they will play a recording of "Amazing Grace" with bagpipes. It definitely touches even the least emotional person. :)

I think my emotional issue with it is that I hear it at military funerals, and that hits close to home.

I wish I could have been with you! I have a chanter, and started to learn the pipes. When my mother had a second stroke, I had to quit. The window for 'free' lessons ended before I could restart, and I am stuck teaching myself.

My MIL is of the Clan McAlpine. Their plaid is a source of debate, but she goes with the one I have posted occasionally. I had the girls learn about it.

All of the plaids for the clans can be confusing. There's the "everyday" tartan and the "dress" tartan and so on.

I was amazed at how the wood changers sounded so much like oboes.
