Hi, Mayfield! Mami has yet to send out a general call like this, but after figuring out the lacking nature of her regain....well, there's a first time for everything.]
Ah, excuse me! I hope I'm not bothering anyone, but I had a question.
As I'm sure you're all aware, it's only been a few days since that incident with the letters ended. I've heard that sometimes, after such events have run their course, the town decides to return certain- [a brief pause] items to people. Almost like a reward or a treat, one could say....an insignificantly pretty gesture to make up for causing suffering and making us despair. But that's not the point.
Is it normal for one's regain to be "incomplete"? For example, getting back half of a suit of clothes, or only a chunk of a weapon- anything like that?
That's a pretty weird question, I know, but I'd appreciate any answers you could give me. Thank you for your time, Mayfield!
[Shortly after this call, Mami will go looking through the house for Ciel. That, or brooding in the kitchen over a cup of tea, a newly acquired ring on one finger.]
[ B | Roller Rink; Mami's studying the trophies in the new area with a quietly intense look on her normally calm face. Perhaps it should bother her when she sees a few names she recognizes, immortalized now in various ranks as killers- but then, she's been long since blunted to death and violence. It seems like these people were the same as her, except more more so; Mami didn't have the heart to kill an innocent stranger, and they did. Of course, she doesn't know the full extent of each situation, but it's not exactly a difficult assumption to make.
Besides, this dark hall of fame....it's a good reminder of how dangerous trust can be. No matter how much you want to give and be given that kind of faith, it ultimately leaves you vulnerable. Any one letter-recipient in Mayfield could have been after her life, true, yet it was these few who really took it seriously.
On her way out, she can't help but lean against the wall. Sag, almost. As cynical and bitter as Mami's become, some things still manage to sting.]
[ C | Home, Streets; After finally regaining her Soul Gem, in an incomplete state or not, there's nothing else for it; the nightly patrols carried out back in her city must be resumed in Mayfield. At least once, anyway, just in case of....well, a lot of things. So at a late, late time tonight, Mami won't be found in her bed but out patrolling Mayfield. Not that she'll be transformed; with her powers as a magical girl still nearly completely lost to her, she couldn't even if she wanted to.
Once, she might have felt relief about that. Instead there's only annoyance and a gnawing anxiety; she can't afford to be helpless any longer.
Dressed normally (if anything can be considered normal dresswear when you're awake as the rest of the town sleeps) Mami makes a meticulous circuit of the town. Her Soul Gem is cupped in her hands, emitting a bright yellow glow. The light is clean, without corruption, and the sight gives Mami a strange sort of awkward hope as she walks. Perhaps she's still unable to fight any Witches, but she can at least find them now, should they exist....should her Soul Gem still retain that power. People can be warned in that event- precautions, taken.
It's better than doing nothing, she tells herself. Now that her power has been returned, even if in such a small and insignificant part, Mami has no choice. She can't keep telling herself that it's all right to try and be a normal person.]
[ D | Mayfield Elementary; Unfortunately, the drastic change to a more relaxed lifestyle that she had been enjoying for the past few months has left Mami out of shape when her sleep schedule is concerned. Basically, she's forgotten how to stay out late and get up early and still function as a human being her usual cheerful self! At school, although as friendly as ever, Mami can be caught zoning out or almost dozing, only to startle awake again. She yawns frequently, and....is she studying that book, or just falling asleep with her head propped up in her hands?]
