After a while, Pete had become fairly good at ignoring whatever the jukebox was playing whenever he came up to the rec room. For the most part, he never recognized the songs it chose, and to be honest, he wasn't much of a fan of what he heard, either. (Music had never been a particularly great love of his. He liked his share of tunes, sure, but ( Read more... )

It was just about the last thing Lucy would have expected to see, Pete dancing, however subtly, in the middle of the rec room. Standing in the doorway from the kitchen, a cup in one hand, she found herself something approaching transfixed, one corner of her mouth lifting in a small, slightly bemused smile. This wasn't a side of him she thought she had ever really seen before, and the more she saw, the more she thought it was one she liked.

"Didn't know you were a dancer, Pete," she said lightly, walking a little closer, her smile only broadening. "What is that? The Charleston or something?"

"Charleston," he replied, without missing a beat, taking a few more steps before coming to a stop, a little out of breath but still utterly chuffed. Besides enjoying the Charleston, it was good to see Lucy up and about, considering that the last time he'd seen her had been in the infirmary, which, unsurprisingly, had been more than a little worrying. "Never really had a reason to do it before now. Do you dance?"

"A little," Lucy answered, shoulders lifting in a shrug. Memories of school dances came to mind, with far more coordinated steps than she had seen at parties here, but even that wasn't quite on the same level. His demeanor was practically infectious, though, making it not seem to matter, a much-needed change in mood from the way she'd felt since passing her three-year mark on the island not long before. "Nothing like that, though. Pretty impressive, I have to say."

"I'll teach you," Pete offered, glancing briefly back at the jukebox as it continued to churn out music. (Hopefully it wouldn't start playing something different if she agreed, although he wouldn't put such antics past the machine.) "I mean, if you've got the time. I promise it isn't difficult."
