Luke 14:25-35...my commentary says almost the same thing (MacArthur) but first he says that the word hate means a lesser love...Mat. 10:37, Gen. 29:30-31
I absolutely LOVE all the the passages in Luke that talk about the cost of discipleship. The other references are Luke 9:23-26, 56-62 Luke 12:49-53 Luke 14:25-35
Personally, I think you can put all of them together. When I read the one about hating your family, it makes me think a lot of the one where Jesus calls someone and they say, "Lord, let me first go and bury my father." And Jesus says, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God." That is just unthinkable these days, but it pretty much is just saying that if you're a disciple of Christ, that's all the you are deep down. (Luke 16:13)
