It's...it's terrible here, if you must know the truth. The students who chose to stay here are plainly terrified. We had the house elves bring food to those who didn't want to leave their dormitories to eat. Filius is all but beside himself; the boy was in his House, after all. Remus and Minerva are...well, they're acting like automatons, almost. And I've had to --
But that's beside the point. I don't know that there is anything you could do. I was looking forward to the party as a chance to get away for a time. I hate I'm not overly fond of Christmas as a rule, but it's better than being alone at this time of year. It helps to know that you are there, if we should need you. It helps me, at least.

Has the Ministry sent anyone up there yet to look into the situation? I haven't worked the last two days so I don't know what's going on at the office. If you like I can try and be a part of whatever group they send, if it includes Aurors. If not, I can still come up there and walk around, if you think it'll make the students feel better to see an Auror nearby at a time like this.
Maybe you can come by for a short while on Saturday. I know you shouldn't be away from Hogwarts for long, but you won't be any good to the kids if you are stressed out and miserable. A chance to relax, even for a short time, might be just what you need. And I am glad to know I can provide you with some small peace of mind.

If you came up for a little while, I think it might help. (The children still haven't forgotten you and Bill and your little...demonstration from a few months back.) It doesn't even have to be an 'official' visit -- I could give you your present when you arrive, after all, and save owl post the trouble of breaking it in transit. I'd like to talk to you about this, in any case, because there are a number of things about this incident that simply don't add up in my mind. And since it's all speculation on my part, there's no worry about breaking ethical codes. It may even prove useful when the inquest rolls around.
If neither Minerva nor Remus need me on Saturday evening, I would like to attend. It will be good to get out of the castle for a few hours, at that.
