As the battle for the after life moved out of Hueco Mundo, Nel found herself left behind once again. Dondochakka and Pesche found the crying toddler!car by some of the ruins in Las Noches, not far from where the dead bodies of Nnotiora and his fraccion Tesla lay. Unable to sense Ichigo's reiatsu, she was inconsolable for a while, refusing to leave Las Noches until she found him or he found her. But it became quickly apparent that Ichigo had departed for good.
For a while, Nel was angry. She felt betrayed and that Ichigo had found someone more fun that she was. Jealous, yes, and blaming it on Orihime or that dark-haired Shinigami she had already been suspicious of. As time went on, though, she got news of Orihime's presence in Las Noches and realized that Ichigo had not fulfilled his goal; rescue the girl. That either meant Ichigo would come back, or he failed. She hoped it was the former.
The past two years were spent in the monotony of the desert, playing their usual games. Nel would occasionally build up enough reiatsu to transform into her original form after the onset during that battle with Nnoitora, but it was a form she never tried to hang onto. Being a child, in a sense, was a lot easier, and she could more easily forget what a mess everything had become. As a child she did not have to fight and she could amuse herself with the simple things. A world free of worry.
And yet...even with years gone, Nel was one very stubborn little Hollow. She has not given up hope, and believes quite firmly that she will be able to find Ichigo again. Whether he wants it or not.
