I believe in the stories we tell one another, whether it is across the flickering light of the evening's fire or by the glow upon a flat screen. It is in this way that we name our fears, and give each other the gift of belief in something bigger than ourselves and the courage to face the darkness that crowds in behind our backs.

It turns out I owe you the introduction to SPN, as you were the one who hooked ErinRua into the fandom. She, in turn, turned me onto SPN. I've turned another friend onto it, who has passed it on to her partner, who turned her cousin and now the rest of her family onto it. I've lost track after that. So, in effect, you're a fandom great-great-great-great grandmother. :D

Such lovely words! Amen to your creed. That, my friend, is the power of fiction. Well done stories that inspire will never go out of style if they be told in a visual medium or in the more traditional written format (unlike say ... reality TV (pssst, someone tell CW this!)).
I enjoyed the parallels you drew. The role of women in romantic roles as the mysterious, virtually inaccessible ideal in both LotR and SPN is something I've always found interesting (hello, ivory tower meet the pedestal). The estrangement from romantic love seems to be a commonality in most war epics.

Yeah, we seem to be getting a bit of the whole madonna-whore dicotomy in SPN.

Thank you.

Do it! Do it! Do it! *g*
never realized before just how similar Brothers -Mir are to Brothers Winchester
You know, when you say it just like that you're making my brain *whirl* yet again. Definitely a LOT of parallels, all the way from losing their mother at an early age, a father who demanded them to be warriors to meet his needs to protect what he loved, how the older brother protects the younger brother and acts as mediator between father and second-born son, a second-born son who despaired of pleasing his father, etc.etc.etc. :D Hmmmm...
LOL! You always do that to me. You know, I miss your Tiny Trifles because of that. You were constantly picking out observations I'd missed that would send me off happily cogitating.

Ah, Tiny Trifles... I sort of fell out of that, and have been meaning to pick them up again. I've still got more than half of the Second Season to go through, anyway...
I'll promise to try and finish them some time in the future, 'kay? :)
Soon as I've gathered enough visual aids, I'll show you just why Geralt of Rivia and his world have stolen my heart and made me curse the fact that I can read Polish about as well as a mouse can use a bicycle...;)
It's like Supernatural set in a sword'n'sorcery-setting!
Save that there's no Impala, really. But Geralt does have a horse in the books...*thinkety-think*
