What's Blue and White and Red All Over?

A meta in 3 parts:

First, an exploration of changes in the use of color in Season 4 so far.  Then a little theorizing about possible color-theme associations.  Thirdly, and lastly, an exploration of other thematic visual elements, integration of visual elements and speculation on their implications.

Warning:  very image heavy post

And... here we go. )

You're definitely onto something with the blue and white. I was just watching Bad Day at Black Rock and noticed that Kubrick was framed in blue and white (on a mission from God, remember?) and that Sam was framed in blue and red. I wouldn't have noticed at all if you hadn't made this post - so thank you!

Another color meta! It's like Christmas and my birthday!

I love how The Show looks this season. I could stare at your comparison caps for S3 and S4 for a long time.

Ruby is surrounded by Yellow in combination with Red, while Castiel is presented in a field of White in combination with Red.

I can't wait to get more scenes with Ruby and Castiel. It'll be interesting to see what the art department does if we ever get a scene featuring BOTH Ruby and Castiel. *color explosion* ;)

I wonder if we (both Dean and the audience) are catching glimpses of the actual act of Dean being pulled from Hell.

Excellent idea! Is it me or are the sound effects this season really going full hog?
