Anti-Yamada people are ridiculous. Usually their reason is "omg I hate him cause he gets all the spotlight" or something like that. And umm, how does that make him a worse person? It's not his choise to make, and he's just doing his job. Besides, bias is a part of JE, just look at NEWS or K-T for example. He's not doing anything wrong, and if people hate him for just doing what he's told to and ignore how awesome he is, that's their problem.

And if we have to go there, Yamada has overall more talent than most in JUMP. This what I've thought even back when he wasn't my favourite. He can do anything, be it singing, dancing or acting, and he does it all really well. And you're right it's not just about who's the most talented, it's the overall package. He works really hard for what he's gained and still stays humble. That's something to really appreciate.
