summary: Their world is falling apart around them but Kyuhyun's never been happier. It's all in the company you keep.
The world is falling down around their ears in little pieces, jagged edges that no longer fit together even if they can find them all again, and Kyuhyun has never been so happy. He thinks it's a selfish thing (it is) but he likes this erratic rhythm of life, new and uncertain and different.
No chants of only thirteen, only thirteen, only thirteen; the silence falls on his ears like a blessing, filled instead by the hum of a familiar voice.
爱很简单, sings Zhou Mi. Or 我无法只是普通朋友. Sometimes: 原来这样就是恋爱.
Kyuhyun knows the words by heart and by sound even if he still guesses at their meaning more often than not. But it's not about what the words mean as much as it's about Zhou Mi singing, drawing new notes on an empty staff and writing a new melody. Everything is chaos but in chaos there is harmony, and Kyuhyun finds himself more content than he has been in months.
Fourth album preparations is the glue that holds them together when they're all straying like dandelion puffs on the wind, pursuing their separate (solo, he dares to think, and wonders if the word holds a new sort of threat and terror now that Tohoshinki has has unraveled) activities. They see each other as a group less and less frequently without the rehearsals and the recordings - and even those are staggered on schedule. He has no obligation to live and breathe by the members as he used to, confined by proximity and the demands of his job. Kyuhyun is free to choose and he chooses Zhou Mi.
Zhou Mi, who sings and smiles and grounds Kyuhyun, like the string that keeps a kite from vanishing into the clouds. Kyuhyun doesn't mind being on a leash anymore, finds it freeing when he can choose the hand at the other end.
Nothing is certain and nothing is set, but Kyuhyun has Zhou Mi's hand to hold through all the worry and shuttered fears, unspoken doubts and hidden resentment. Zhou Mi reminds him to be grateful he's alive, makes him feel guilty to be so happy that 爱很简单. Love is so simple.
The world may never fit right again, but Kyuhyun doesn't care. He can see the end and the beginning in the little things: Jungsu's injuries and Donghae's quiet eyes and Heechul's careful mask. Kyuhyun takes the breath to blow out the dandelion puffs and scatter them into the sky. He pushes Zhou Mi off the couch, stocks the apartment with Coke, practices his Mandarin. Sings. Laughs.
He's happy. The world is perfect as it is, reflected back to Kyuhyun in Zhou Mi's eyes.
