Thank you for sharing this. I didn't know about this, and it is good to know that y'all're receiving this reminder, particularly of the responsibilities, from the very beginning.
And, I say both as a nurse, and as your friend: You, sir, are going to be one of the really excellent ones. Because your heart is already mature, and your eyes already see the world clearly. You will graft a new mix of skills, art and craft, onto a soul that is already formed, and is, to some fairly deep levels, both wise and clean.
Unless you need to, no response to this is needed. I speak this truth to speak it, not to receive an answer.

I don't really feel that the criticism you cited is really valid. Society has a hierarchy, but those at the top are not necessarily the masters of those below them, nor is that hierarchy a static thing, normally.
To me, this sounds like a good way to remind the new apprentices that they are responsible for those under their care. It seems much like a medicine man or woman performing a ritual to accept a new acolyte.
Anyways, congratulations. I believe that you will excel.
