I think my first question would be whether A Christmas Story and Vanities have been musicalized (I think Renee, Dynia, and Maile Talbot did Vanities in high school, and it wasn't a musical). Vanities I think is worth seeing as a play; it dramatizes three women who, starting out as best friends, grow apart over the course of 15 or 20 years. I think it's also the only one of these that I've seen a stage production of. A Christmas Story is great for nostalgia value and it's probably fun, but I don't know if I'd spend money on seeing it live necessarily (as for me, the movie version is so definitive). On the other hand, it might be interesting to see how they pulled off some of the bigger events in the movie on stage (Santa kicking him down the slide, Ralphie getting his tongue stuck, etc
( ... )
Yep, we're season ticketholders this year, so they just e-mailed me that these will be playing next year (along with Oklahoma! and Guys and Dolls, both of which I'm familiar with). I think all of these will be musicals - I think they only do musicals.
Thanks for your recommendations - I thought In the Heights sounded familiar, so maybe we'll plan to see that, Oklahoma!, Guys and Dolls, and maybe one of the two musicalized ones.
