At the bakery [ota]

Leoben was working at Laura's bakery as he had been for several months. He wasn't much of a baker, but did work the cash register. He enjoyed it for the most part. It certainly wasn't something he'd seen himself doing before arriving in the village. But he found he liked it, meeting the people that came in. Turned out his was quite good at customer service, mainly because he was able to stay calm and never getting upset with anyone no matter how difficult they were being. Not that it happened often here, since most people in the village coming into the bakery were easy to get along with. Especially during this time of year.

Christmas. A Christian celebration. A celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. The son of the one God. He looked over at the displays of Christmas cookies shaped like snowmen, Santa Claus, and pine trees.

He didn't really understand what the pine trees had to do with Jesus. Or why they put candy in stockings. But he'd learned a long time ago from being in the village that certain Earth human traditions were rather incomprehensible.
