Zoe wakes up and instantly knows something isn't right. It takes some effort, but she rolls onto her back from her left side and realizes Wash isn't in bed. Reaching out, his spot is cold and her heart slams in her chest. Eyes darting toward the bathroom, the door is open with the light off. She can't move for a second, glancing over at his spot again and noticing a piece of paper on the pillow. Grabbing it, she reads a note scrawled in his handwriting:
On the roof, bao bei.
Letting out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding, Zoe gets out of bed and pulls on a pair of soft, long yoga pants and a light gray duster over her pajamas before making her way to the elevator. There's no way she's climbing stairs. Opening the door to the roof quietly, she just watches her husband silently, taking in his profile. The relief flooding through her at the sight of him just knowing he's there hits her hard, but she swallows it back, letting the roof door close and announce her presence.
