To love, and be loved in return .... (OTA, dual pup post)

Eventually, Charles knew he should go back to teaching his classes. He should be responsible, he knew. But in a way, he felt like he was just settling back in to the village, finding himself here, with Jack and his friends; Elle. He was liked here, loved. After being alone for so long (apologies, Hank), it took some getting used to. He sat in front ( Read more... )

Jack had seen Charles from afar and had been heading in his direction with a giant grin plastered on his face, but his stride was slowed when he noticed a figure sticking to the shadows in an alley out of the corner of his village.

Hmm...

He turned to look, "Hey, there." Jack called out, smile warm and friendly as he neared, "Everything going alright back there?"

"They have bigger boats you can rent, we can get you on with the chair." he assured him, then grinned, "Unless you'd like to have me carry you?"

"I do like that," Charles teasingly admitted, his cheeks pinking just that little bit to show the truth (he did). But ... "a bigger boat might be nice. We can get some food on the way?"

"Of course. Did you want to just eat before, or take something onto the boat?" he asked.

"Something on the boat, I think," Charles decided, already pulling off the brake on his chair. "And ... " he looked over at his lover. "A bottle of wine?"

That he shouldn't drink, he didn't think about.

"We can pick up a bottle at Veritas." he agreed, moving to stand. Maybe Charles shouldn't drink, but Jack wouldn't bring it up. This would be alright, he thought.

It wasn't drinking to escape; it was different.

Charles motored his chair to move with Jack. This would be nice, he thought. What he needed. Time entirely alone with his lover.

It would be nice. And Jack was looking forward to that breeze on the water. He leaned over to kiss him quickly before they headed toward the wine bar.

When they were armed with a good red wine and some nice bread and cheese, they were headed toward the marina. Charles hadn't been out here in his time in the village; he inhaled the salty air.

Jack rushed in to quickly get the boat rented and then took all the supplies along the dock. Luckily it was easy to get to without having to cross the sand for Charles' chair. He took the wine and food at set it inside the boat then help to get his lover onto the boat, setting out a ramp.

Here went nothing.

Charles steered his chair carefully. It made him think of Cerebro, actually. But he was on the boat, then, feeling it rock beneath his wheels. "I haven't been on a boat since I was a child," he admitted, somewhat breathless.

"That means it'll be exciting then." Luckily Jack knew how to control the boat or this would have been a very short trip. He started to power it up, a low rumble starting up underneath them of the engine.

It already was.

Charles turned his chair to look in the direction they were headed and braked his chair. He didn't realize he was smiling.

Anchor up and ropes untied, Jack ran back to the wheel, turning back once to give Charles a grin and a wink. Then they were off heading toward the horizon.

This would be fun.

It already was, actually.

Charles, with his sunglasses on, let his head fall back a little, face toward the sun, feeling the wind in his hair. It felt good.

And that they'd be further from the people in the village, that was a pleasant side effect of this choice. Once they'd gotten out far enough that the village was barely visible, Jack slowed the boat, turning to give them a good view of the horizon, he put out anchor.

Turning to Charles, he smiled, "Well?"
