Arrival of a grumpy old man. Oh yeah, he's also a bit drunk [OTA]

Gene walked through the squad room, not looking at a single soul until he got to the back by his office. He took a deep breath and stared at everyone. There were feet shuffling, eye contact avoidance and a rare few that looked right at him.

"I believe I have a right to feel a little upset. See, I understood that I commanded your unswerving loyalty. Your love, affection and unquestioning obedience. Apparently I was mistaken. However, given the evidence with which you were confronted, I can understand why that loyalty might have wavered. What I find somewhat harder to understand is how you miserable tossers could, for one second, believe that I could be a frigging, bastard murderer!"

He stalked off toward his office until he remembered something else he wanted to say and came back to face them again. "Oh, and another thing! I should inform you that I intend to drink the equivalent of the North Sea in whiskey tonight, so raid your piggybanks!"

The radio was playing and Gene had had the equivalent of half the North Sea so far and was working on drinking the other half. Chris was ... being Chris and dancing, if you could call it that in the aisle.

"Right then. A toast." Gene held up a glass of Scotch, his words slurring just a little bit but who could blame him. His boys (oh right, and Annie) had thought he was a bloody murderer. "To me!"

"To the guv!" There were rounds of shouting, glasses raised and then drinking once again.

Gene muttered "to the sheriff", before tossing back his own drink and getting up to his feet. He swayed a bit, the room rocking back and forth but not enough to deter him from his path. The toilet. His bladder was screaming at him. Gene made his way out of the squad room, down the corridor and to the men's loo. At least he hoped it was the loo. It might be an office. He didn't really care as he closed his eyes and relieved himself.

Once the duty was done, he gave a sigh of relief and opened his eyes. Then shook his head as if to clear it. He really had too much to drink. He didn't remember going outside to take a leak but obviously he had since he was standing in the middle of a park next to a tree.

"Bloody hell." Gene zipped himself up and turned to head back to the squad room but instead of seeing Manchester in the distance, he saw buildings.
