The Doctor was, as usual, in the midst of studying the village, and he hoped his surveying tool had gathered up enough data on the physical layout of Haurvatat to help formulate a way to move his TARDIS (still out in the surrounding woods) to a much more convenient spot. The scanner in his pocket lay dormant, though he always had it on, just in case an anomaly happened to rumble its way past.
Like now.
The scanner beeped out an alarm, and the Doctor fumbled to snatch it out of his pocket. The particulars scrolling past the screen displayed staggering levels of artron energy. The likes of which could and mostly will cause physical changes to any living thing it touched. Time eddies. Pockets of whirling time, rushing through the village like so much wind. Invisible to the human eye, but their effects could be catastrophic.
And one seemed headed his way.
He broke into a run, dashing down the sidewalk while taking quick glances behind him, sensing the patch of altered time no one else could see. Casual passersby might believe him mad for running away from nothing, and he was probably the only Time Lord foolish enough to think he could outrun Time. After several blocks of playing mouse to Time's cat, he dropped to the ground and allowed the eddy to zoom over him.
Easing back to his feet, he made to dust himself off and noted, with steadily growing irritation, that his chest and waist had suddenly become more...ample. An attempt to tug the lapels of his coat together ended with defeat.
"Oh, no," he sighed in a voice weathered with age. "Not again."
