Missing Persons [Tag Tristan and then Five]

Avon's name was still on the registry. That was Data's clue that he hadn't left as Spot had just a few days earlier. But he hadn't returned to their room, and that was a telling story in itself.

Data gathered up Spot's and Crookshank's kittens in a carrier, the four of them mewing for attention desperately. He didn't want them around with his brother around. He would take them to the Shelter, even the new Spot. Leave them there until he knew it would be safe.

He was at the bottom floor of the elevator before he realized that internally he should have registered the time change. Logically, it had been at least twenty seconds from one point to the next. Internally he hadn't recognized it. Time wasn't passing for him.

A good many functions relied on that internal chronometer. His heart rate, his digestion, his movement. So he focussed most of his attention on being hyper-aware as he made his way to the animal clinic. He would go to there and then to speak with the Doctor about scanning, and then to the police station to report a missing person.

The organization of tasks no longer came as quite the comfort that it used to.
