It was Anouk's second week of school. So far, she hadn't really made any friends, but she didn't expect to - not yet. She got to her classroom every morning just before the bell, and sat quietly during the announcements and the beginning of the lesson.
Having moved around as much as she had, her education was slightly spotty. Her mother had tried to fill in the gaps, of course, but she was inevitably behind in some subjects while ahead in others. She could read very well, she could add fractions and knew some of her multiplication tables, but she hadn't quite gotten long division yet, and decimals were unknown to her. She knew the geography of Europe and Africa quite well, but became confused when it had changed since her time and knew next to nothing of history (besides the two Great Wars) beyond the stories her mother told her: Tales of Genji, A Thousand and One Arabian Nights, The Epic of Gilgamesh, and the like.
Often in class, when they were going over something she'd already mastered, Anouk would draw. She drew fantastical creatures, ancient gods, and the heroes from her mother's stories. She would get lost in the reverie of her imagination, and only a bite from Pantoufle would let her know that she should return to the lesson. Because of this, she was often berated by her teacher for not paying attention. Anouk would take the chastisement in stride, staring back unflinchingly until it was over.
At lunch, she would pull out the sandwich she'd helped her mother make that morning, and usually a pastry of some sort. She'd buy milk to go with it, eat alone, and then try to join whatever game was going on in the yard.
[[ooc: tag her in the classroom/hallway or at recess? Because she really ought to be finding friends her age, or a few years older.]]
