Another Year (OTA)

Sep 18, 2015 17:20

Castiel liked to think of this day as his birthday- September 18th 2008 was when he had resurrected Dean, and when he had first come to Earth. Cas had been through a lot since that day. He had gotten sentimental about it last year, overly so he was sure, but he did enjoy the party he had put on ( Read more... )

As if Dean would ever refuse free food and drink. He stepped inside the Ribbon and headed over toward Cas. He knew why there was a celebration but he liked yanking his chain.

"So what's so special about today that you're having a party?" Dean asked as he picked up a handful of peanuts and popped them into his mouth.

When he first spotted Dean, his eyes lit up just a little. Of course Cas was still fooled by jokes and sarcasm at times, but this time it was because of the current situation: Dean sporting the Mark of Cain.

He looked over at the eldest Winchester skeptically. "... That thing isn't eating away at your memory, is it?"

Or, perhaps there was something going around the in village? After all, he thought he was missing a chunk of memories of his own time here, with no answer to that yet. He'd keep that to himself.

"Guess it depends, am I supposed to know you?" What? Dean couldn't resist, Mark of Cain or not, it was fun to yank Cas' chain.

That received another brow raise.

"... Very funny, Dean." And he chuckled just slightly. "So, how have you been anyway?"

Anna walked into The Ribbon with a thin, square box that was wrapped in silver and blue paper and even had a bow on it, though she certainly hadn't been the one to tie it. She had the woman at the bookstore to thank for the perfectly symmetrical ribbon. Inside was a gift of crochet. It occurred to Anna afterwards that Castiel might have also taught himself how to crochet, but she wasn't sure. The receipt was included inside a silly little card attached to the side of the gift.

He knew the basics of crochet, but had been better at knitting. Still, perhaps the book would help him learn (he did like books a LOT after all) as well as the different sized crochet hooks.

Castiel spotted Anna and the present and smiled as he stepped over to greet her.

"Hello, Anna. It's been a while."

'Yeah, it has." It was both their faults, but if Anna were being honest, it had helped her. It didn't mean she didn't feel something when she was around it. It just meant that Anna was able to hold it back inside of her and not let it affect her. She was okay with where they stood now.

She held out the gift to him. "This is for you, Cas. Happy Birthday."

Castiel took the box and looked it over, admiring the colors Anna chose. It was likely not wrapped by her own hands, but she must have chosen the colors. "Should I open it now or later?"

"You know, it seems like the last few times we've spoke it's because a sibling or a friend has left. Obviously not any of our doing, but that's still a little odd how that happens." Gabriel was the last one to go, unless someone else had left that he was unaware of, and he really missed him no matter how much of a bully he could be at times. They had never been closer, at least not to his knowledge.

Well, he did look deeper into himself recently and pulled up some memories from way back when, up in Heaven, before he and Anna were stationed to watch Earth. Gabriel hadn't changed that much since then, except he had been quite a bit more bitter here. They all were, really.

"How have you been? Things on my end have been... a little strange, honestly."

It's one of those strange things to celebrate--a birthday that most likely isn't the being's birthday. Perhaps it has more meaning, since Castiel chose the day. I bring for him a bottle of Elven wine that I now find fairly often at the store. I don't know where Eryn Lasgalen* is, but that doesn't matter.

"It is easy to be merry for you, my brother." Castiel is serious, yet there is a positivity to him. Not so much when he returned (or didn't return), but he has likely come back to himself after that bit of strangeness.

"A gift for your special day." For him personally, or the Ribbon if he prefers.

Ignore if too late.
*Eryn Lasgalen doesn't exist yet in Faramir's time--Legolas will rule there after the Ring War ends.

Yes, though he feels a bit off from it still, Castiel has certainly bounced back from worse before. He's mostly well now, and happy to share food and drink with company.

"Thank you, Brother." Cas greets Faramir as if he were one of his many siblings. It slips off the tongue easily, though the man is much better than many of them. He doesn't have enough siblings here for them to take offense to him calling a human being 'Brother' anyway. Dean might get offended, as he never called him such.

"This looks lovely, thank you. Should we open it now or share it another time?"

"As it is a gift and now yours, when and where it is opened is up to you." I rarely absolve myself of responsibility, but it is a gift and not a burden. "The village sees fit to have Elven wine much more than it once did."

I think the first time it showed up was at the Christmas holiday for me to give as gifts. I continue that giving tradition.

"The Ribbon seems a good place to me to have such a gathering." Healing, promoting good nature.

"I don't think I've tried Elven Wine. I've had some sort of wizard whiskey before- that was pretty strong, for a human drink. Perhaps we'll open this and share a glass another day." There were already so many bottles open, and Cas didn't want to share the gift with everyone.

"It is, I'm starting to think we should hold more events. People book the ballroom for Christmas dinners and other parties, but I'm sure there are a few that are more suited for here. Maybe I could hold an autumnal celebration."
