"I just really wanted to win." Kurt's voice is laced with disappointment.
Blaine is aware of how much winning meant to Kurt, especially after all the progress The Warblers had made thanks to his often unbridled criticisms. They had grown as a team and gave better performances as a result, and that was enough for Blaine. He really didn't care about winning. After the results were announced, even thinking about the competition was more than he really felt was necessary, especially in light of the grand realization he'd come to during Kurt's performance of Blackbird.
And after the absolutely breathtaking kisses they'd shared.
He cared incredibly deeply for Kurt; more than he imagined he could care for someone. He'd been there all along. Blaine had just been too distracted to see him.
"You did win," he declares, turning to look at Kurt, who in turn cocks his head just slightly, as if unsure what Blaine means. "So did I," he adds, as a familiar fondness grabs hold of his heart.
Just a day ago, the realization of his feelings for Kurt had hit him so heavily that he could barely think about anything else. He'd needed to tell Kurt as soon as possible, because he felt so foolish for missing out on so much time together. But as soon as he managed to stumble his way through telling Kurt - which was the hardest part for him, but the part he knew Kurt needed the most - it was as if that weight lifted from his shoulders and this reassuring warmth lingered in his chest.
That warmth only grew stronger as they kissed for the first time. He never knew someone could be as beautiful as Kurt looked in that moment - stunned, overjoyed and overwhelmed.
"We got each other out of all this," he clarifies, and a small smile forms on his boyfriend's amazing lips. "That beats a lousy trophy, don't you think?" He hopes Kurt feels the same, because for Blaine, being with Kurt feels better than all the competitions he's ever won, combined.
The fear he'd once felt about being a failure at romance had disappeared. This was Kurt. Kurt who knew his quirks and his shortcomings, but apparently loved him anyway. At least that's what his eyes seemed to say. Kurt would forgive him when he wasn't perfect all the time, despite his best efforts.
He offers his hand and Kurt removes his from his coat pocket, gladly accepting.
And as they walk hand-in-hand away from the final resting place of their feathered friend, all he can think about is how madly in love he feels, how in awe he is that he's finally found someone as wonderful as Kurt, and how he has to show Kurt every single day how much he means to him.
He gently swings their clasped hands and Kurt smiles even wider. It's the kind of smile which absolutely cannot go unappreciated. So he stops, but Kurt continues on until he feels the stretch of their arms and turns back to Blaine.
"What's wrong?" Kurt asks, searching his boyfriend's face.
"Nothing," Blaine answers, stepping toward him and cupping his face. "Come here," he requests, closing the space between them and kissing Kurt once again, paying special attention to his bottom lip.
He'll never of tire of this. Of that he is sure.
