Why do alcoholics celebrate their drinking anniversary. It's been 4 years since my last glass of gin! wooooo!

I suppose it has something to do with being happy that you overcame an addiction.

What I dont get is having an alcoholic parent who tears apart your family and getting trashed every weekend anyways. You would think that watching your dad lose all teeth, do insane damage to his liver, and destroy his marriage would be a deterrent, but I guess some people are too stupid to function :P True story by the way....and you know the girl from HC too.
