When Sammy is on bed rest, Kylie is bodyguard.
Everyone, everyone who tries to come into Sammy's room gets vetted by Kylie. She does not care if you are a special hypoallergenic cat (TB, please present your paws to be cleaned before you jump all over her Sammy's chest) or if you are a angel (thank you for you for your patience while she asks Sammy directly every time in case it has suddenly turned into a bad day, you may enter) or even if you are Dean and that's where she gets in trouble.
"He's my damn brother, Kylie."
"He's sleeping and you're loud."
"I'm not loud," Dean says, all soft, and Kylie is the only person, the only person in the whole world who never forgets that loud means something different for Sammy.
"Your brain is loud."
He breathes out hard through his nose. "Kylie. Three."
"Hmmph."
"I'm not kidding. Two."
"Grrrrrrrrr!"
"One. That's it. Time out."
"Moooooooom!"
After time out, after dinner in her room while Mom tells her again all patient that sometimes she has to let Sam and Dean feel each other out and make their own mistakes and they aren't doctors, Kylie, and they aren't perceptive little girls, either Kylie sneaks back in and crawls into the bed next to Sammy. He's crying.
"I love you. Pretend you're a star and you're waaaaay up there in space. The planets are your friends and sometimes astronauts come but not very much so you get peace and quiet."
Sammy grabs her and pulls her in and cries into her shoulder.
"I'll cover you," she whispers, and she tents his body with hers and she is a shell and he is her crab.

When Mommy is on bed rest, Kylie is entertainment.
Mom's big and uncomfortable with the twins, and she still has like a zillion months to go and she's propped up in bed with Kylie tucked into her side while Dean brings her tea and she yells at Dr. Phil for giving bad advice.
"Tell them to fuck off and get divorced already! These two are not going to work out!"
Dean opens the door with his shoulder and comes in with a tray. "There there, dear."
"H stole their daughter's clothes to give to the children of the chick he was fucking on the side. There's no way this is going to work. These people are a disgrace to marriage."
"Christa Hormones Winchester."
"Grrrr." She tugs him down and kisses him.
Meanwhile, Kylie takes one of the dresses that will be baby Emmy's out of the dresser drawer where they're folded, ready, waiting, and quietly pulls it over the head of the aforementioned hypoallergenic cat.
They're all gross, kissing each other's necks, so Kylie goes "AHEM," before she holds up TB in his polka-dot jumper "Look who Mom gave your children's clothes to, Dean!"
Dean shakes his head at Mom, all slow and disappointed. "All this time I was trying to make you happy and you were out sleeping with some cat."

When Castiel is on bed rest, Kylie is in the way.
He's on the couch of their bungalow in Hawaii, panting hard and whimpering in his sleep that his wings hurt, and Sammy is crouched by the bed with Cas's hand at his mouth, his teeth closed around his knuckle, his whole face shaking.
Mom and Dad are mumbling in the kitchen. When Kylie comes in they're quiet.
Mom says, "Honey, go read your book, okay?"
"How are we gonna get home?"
Mom takes their coffee mugs and refills them. She palms the back of Dad's head on her way back to the table. She's unsteady. She cries a lot. "We're working that out."
"What if we need to take him to the hospital?"
Dad says, "We know, Kylie," and she bites down on her lip until it hurts.
Jude starts crying in his high chair. Dad gets up to pick him up but Kylie gets there first. She cradles him against her shoulder and listens to him wheeze.
When everyone is asleep--Mom and Dad in their room, the babies in theirs, Sam on the floor next to the couch--Kylie gets up and fills one of the twins' bottles with water to help Cas drink.
She curls up between his belly and the back of the couch and gives him water and kisses his cheek and tries not to let her fingers get caught in the bloody feathers on his back. This is the first time she has ever, ever seen his wings. She used to make some out of paper and tape them to her back and run around pretending to be him, pretty, folded, white, perfect.
She isn't sure if he's awake, but he drinks a little, and Kylie stays up and listens to Mom cry upstairs and Sam cry on the floor and the twins whimper in their cribs.

When Dean is on bed rest, Kylie is scared.
Everyone holds her a lot. Sammy when Mom is in with him, Mom when Sammy is. Emmy and Jude are starting to toddle around. Emmy's first word was Dad Jude's first word was Emmy.
Mom holds her on the swing and tells her it isn't her fault.
"He loves you so much," she says. She's playing with Kylie's hair, easing the twists out so her hair will have curls like hers. "You know that, baby?"
"Uh-huh." Dad plays hopscotch with her. He kisses her goodnight and holds her hand after nightmares. He comes to her ballet recitals and tears up and tells everyone
that one is mine, that's my daughter.
"Is he sick?"
Mom is quiet for a minute, fingers in her hair, and then she says, "Yeah, honey. He's sick."
Kylie isn't supposed to see him, but she does, of course, when Mommy's giving Sam his shot and Cas is making her hot chocolate. She sits on the foot of the bed and says, "Let me put socks on you, okay?"
Dad's shaking so hard he might fall off the bed. His face is gray and wet like a used-up paper towel.
She eases out his cold little feet and pulls on the thickest socks she can find. Dad kisses his palm and reaches his hand to the foot of the bed to cup her cheek.
That one is mine. That's my daddy.

When Kylie is on bed rest, she swallows and swallows in her hospital bed and hopes they don't stick that fucking camera down her throat again. Dad's angry in the hallway why didn't she tell us she was hurting so much, I don't understan and Mom is crying and holding his elbow and Cas feeds her ice chips and Sammy sits by the bed and plays with her bracelet and whispers, "I know, I know, I know."
She falls asleep and wakes up to Dad blowing cool air on the back of her neck, Sammy wheeze-sighing in his sleep and adjusting his head where it's resting on her pillow, Cas having a whisper argument with a night nurse because Kylie does not like red jello, if you want to be helpful go get her hot chocolate, and Mom, in the chair in the corner, with her two babies and her new baby bump, but eyes on just Kylie, mouthing you are my sunshine.
Emmy climbs off Mom's lap and stands on her tip-toes to kiss Kylie's cheek, and Kylie falls asleep and dreams about brothers and sisters who never get sick.
