I woke up ridiculously late today, after a night of fabulous theatre, slight awkwardness, and never-ending tension toward Registration Navigator.
Not only does Ottawa U restrict me from teaching high-school science even if I got my BSc (I'd need at least two extra chem courses as well as a few others), but it also is preventing me from registering ( Read more... )

How is it that Ottawa U's science degree won't let you teach science? Isn't that more a reflection that you just need more science credits, then the school itself?

It's a reflection on the school with regards to the setup. Ottawa U's Bachelor of Science in Psych program does not provide me with enough science credits to teach high-school science. You'd think with a Science program, you'd be set, right? Wrong.

Yes, I'd need to take more science - even after completing the degree, it would be a matter of going above and beyond my "Science" program requirements (and above and beyond that which I'm willing to put myself through), to take MORE courses so that I actually qualify. And I don't have the time, money, or patience, nor the desire to stay at Ottawa U and deal with more of their administrative shit.

You're angry that Ottawa U isn't forcing you to take enough science credits that would allow it as a teachable.. yet the reason you don't want to take any science optionals is because it would be "above and beyond that which I'm willing to put myself through"

I don't get it.. whether those credits are a requirement for your degree or not, you'd still have to do the same amount of work..

I'm not angry that they're not forcing me, I just think it's stupid that a Science degree won't allow me to teach science.

Yes, I would obviously have to do the same amount of work either way.
But the point is that I don't have ROOM or TIME to take them because they're not part of the program, and I'm stuck filling in all the other credentials that I need to get this 'science' degree that I'm already a year behind in. If they were a requirement for the degree, I would obviously have room for them, as they would be PART of my program.
