Grumpy!

May 14, 2005 17:12

I am grumpy as hell right now, but I'm at the coffee shop having a quattro and there's plenty of extra-hot hotties today, so that's easing the pain a bit. My grumpiness might stem from the fact that I went to bed yesterday morning around 0530 and got up at 0800. I had a long day yesterday, which included picking up a half-ton of hollow steel ( Read more... )

Well, sometimes bad days are good, in order to have us truly appreciate the good ones? Some good thoughts for you though....

Unless you're shooting an open gun in one of those ghost holsters, you're probably not going to break 5.xx on the El Pres. Your times right now are pretty damn good, duder. The video of the guy getting the 3.xx El Pres was shot with red dot/comp/ghost holster/mag pouches up front. If you're shooting out of a production rig and you beat 4.xx, you will be king.

All your times are really damn good, for that matter. Hell, reloads give everybody fits.

Anyways, you'll have a better time next time. I shot today and there were 4 total CLOWNS in the lane beside me. After they left I was sweeping up brass and found a 9mm casing that had OBVIOUSLY been fired in a .40 gun. Bunch of dumbasses. I'll post a photo later....

I forgot to add that I got a 2.0-something bill drill.

I'm not worried about reloads, the solution to that problem is obvious. Lots and lots of obsessive practice. I'm pretty good at that. I'm still not sure why reloading down low is a problem. I spent some time evaluating the mechanics of it and it just seems like it's faster to bring the magazine and the gun together and then punch the gun back out rather than sweep the magazine all the way up to the gun.

What I am worried about is dealing with people and being able to get in the "zone" when I want to. If today's events had transpired in a match and my performance suffered as a result, I'd be frustrated for days. I think the real problem was that I was already irritable and I lacked the patience and ability to tell everyone to shut the hell up and shoot diplomatically.

The latter part of that is my problem, for sure.

Back to the reloads, all of the pros have a slightly different style. Many do bring the mag most of the way out to the gun, but not ALL of 'em... Find what works for you and refine it. It'll likely change over time anyway...

Damn, that is flying for El Pres... are those A zone hits or anywhere on paper? What kind of holster/pistol combo are you using?

As for getting into the zone, I suggest looking at the United States Army Marksmanship Units Pistol Guide for start. It was written for bullseye pistol shooting but all of the info pertains to the various shooting sports. The chapter on Mental Discipline is a good one to refresh in your head whenever you start feeling match nerves. I also find it helpful to stage with friends or at least friendly associates that I can BS with in between stages to unwind a little. If all that fails, you can do what I do when I have to put up with a moron... just quietly repeat to yourself, "It is not sporting to stomp cripples... it is not sporting to stomp cripples..." See, I bet you already feel better. ;)
