I'm here in the coffee shop again, as usual for most afternoons. Given that it's Thursday, the furries are starting to gather. One unfortunate fact that I've recently learned is that Thursday is a national day of gathering for the furries. These particular furries were recently kicked out by the surly barista, but after writing a passionate ( Read more... )

I am totally buying one of the James Bond Stealth Cameras as soon as I have a reason to celebrate something. :)

I have one - it's pretty limited, as you'd expect. Basically I think it's a first-generation cell phone camera chip. And like any other camera, you never have it on you when you need it ;)

Yeah, I've looked through the user gallery on thinkgeek and the quality is definitely cell-ish. But I think of it like a itty bitty .22 - having *a* gun is better than having *no* gun. Same with cameras. :) I never seem to have my Canon with me when I see something cool. Like this morning - on the way to work I saw a chick on a bike with one of those little covered kiddie carts behind her. In the cart - her labrador. :) But I had no camera! AUGH!

Stealth cameras are cool for folks that are too shy to stick a camera in someone's face and take a photo. Personally, I think I'm going to borrow a friend's digital SLR with a giant lens. I have no qualms about taking candid photos of people.

People that fantasize about being anthropomorphic animals. In my experience they're like a group of D&D folks that like to dress up like animals and have sex with one another.

Oh no, you're kidding me! Looks like that particular fad hasn't made it to Chicago.

Although a friend who lives in Tokyo has reported sightings of people in actual large animal costumes - is that what the CA variety does as well?

It's not really a fad so much as an established form of sexual deviancy. Though any furry would tell you it's not about the sex. I'm sure there are some in Chicago, I just doubt there as open about it in public. If you like, I'm sure I can find you a group that you can visit.

Actual large animal costumes are sometimes worn, very likely at conventions.
