DH part 1 was wayyy better imo, but this was just like...the rest of it. Which was still good, but not AS good.

YESSSS I AGREE SO MUCH WITH ALL OF THIS and said a lot of similar things in my post. The lack of characterization felt pretty jarring after the last movie, but i'm also sort of okay with it since this half really is more climax than development. But RON, ergh, it dawned on me that how he was treated made me feel like the [terrible] end of the HBP movie, where it's really supposed to be aallll about the trio and yet Ron is randomly shunted off to the side. Not cool.

I wanted that moment where it wasn't Ron's bravery or encouragement or whatever, but his GETTING her that made her drop everything and kiss him in the book.YES, i think that's mostly what was missing for me as well. Since they'd never included the house elf stuff i don't see how they would have done it, but the fact that there was no impetus for the kiss other than "we almost just died!" (LIKE EVERY OTHER THING THAT EVER HAPPENS TO THEM) made it sort of cliched and just... there. Not as thrilling ( ... )

feelings twins~

Ron WAS shunted off to the side, like I noticed it more than ever in this one. Blah. Since the book is such a love letter to the trio for me, I wanted that to carry through -- and it did in part one so on balance I guess I'm good.

I think the fact that they had everyone cheering when the slytherins were sent off was just too much. I hated it in the books and I hated it in this. ty for the Blaise clarification though because I clearly wasn't sure what-all happened. I didn't even remember Goyle dying. XD

AND THEN THEY PULL OUT THIS ONE.

That's because Kloves and Yates love us. Or. No, actually they hate us.

My first reaction to McGonagall sending the Slytherins to the dungeon was "OI! Hey now, way to stick up for House unity" and then I remembered that their common room was in the dungeon. It was like she was grounding them so I went from being really offended to slightly offended and a lot more amused. IDK

I was really surprised by how much I loved Kelly MacDonald as The Grey Lady. She really added a level of depth to that brief appearance and I thought she and Dan played that scene perfectly.

Okay, I can kind of see that? But then, I didn't like how they were treated in the books so I was sort of sour about seeing it on screen either way.

I've been a KM fangirl for some time now, I can't believe I forgot that she was in this movie. But she really made an impression.

Exactly. The same thing happened in the books to a lesser extent, and it really undermined the house unity message.

Ah, good to know about Blaise :D He was hot too tbh.

because the back half off the BOOK was very difficult to translate into a movie

Yeah, I didn't think about that because it's been so long since I read it, but you have a point there. It was all over the place and Harry himself had to be everywhere in order to have seen all of that, and it was a mess. But it could've been done, and instead it was just a rush to get in all the Big Moments everyone wanted to see. But yes. DH pt 1 was his last full movie. And definitely the best one.

I was glad for that Lavender spoiler too. I may not have caught it, or made the connection between the body they covered and the shot of her before. Just, ugh. They done you wrong, Lav.
