Here is an article from a men's magazine (showcasing far superior writing to Maxim and Playboy, BTW) about another environmental crisis; plastic. What they have to say about what plastics actually get recycled is frightening.

Yep, basically, recycling is imaginary, except for aluminum. Actually, I'm not sure about glass.

My dad brings his own mesh bags when shopping. I'd like to do that, but we always get so much at a time. We feel better because we reuse our paper and/or plastic bags at least once before "recycling" them, but even so, we are probably ruining the planet. *sigh*

Well, glass can be melted down and heated to a high enough temperature to kill off the bacteria and whatnot and make it safe to use for food products again. So I think glass is alright, although so much is plastic now that I'm not sure how much glass recycling actually occurs.
