Had to call this school in MN that made me an offer and basically say, "I can't accept because you're not offering me enough money, but if my husband gets a really good offer in the same area, I'll be able to afford to take the 10k pay cut you're offering." So you're leaning towards Minnesota to move? I love that, you can go watch them tape Prairie Home Companion whenever you want!

The job market is very scary right now- I've never been gladder to have a union gig, which seems (at least for now) to be fairly busy with work. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you guys.

Oooof... a 10K paycut, especially if cost of living is not also reduced the same amount, is a REALLY hard pill to swallow. It's hard to say "I need this much" because we've been trained to sound like it's greedy and we should appreciate what we get, but your time has value as does your and your family's future.

Yep. Schools are a great gig, but they definitely come with a down-side. But, don't forget that with summers off you can have a side hustle. Also, schools typically have good insurance.

Is this a union job? Is there a salary scale, or is it negotiated year-to-year? MN is a tenure state, so that's a nice protection (if it applies at charter schools).
