So, I haven't really been around. Not just LiveJournal, but on the computer in general. It's been kind of nice, but I do miss the social interaction (what little of it there is). Brock and Wes are gone for the day and I've just been hanging out at home by myself. It's SO NICE OUT. 54 degrees! I opened all of the windows in the house until I ( Read more... )

It can be nerve wracking to put yourself out there, but I always feel like if you're doing things that you enjoy doing anyways, it's worth a try. Even if it doesn't turn out exactly as you expect, you're still doing things you'd enjoy anyways.

Have you considered doing art and selling it on items through an on demand service, like Zazzle, so that you don't have to pay for cost up front? It would just take your time setting it up. And there are ways to promote your items without paying money. You may not make it rich, but you could make some extra spending money that you could save up for your trips.

My VA business focuses on helping handcrafted businesses and I've worked with a lot of small online businesses. I'd be happy to brainstorm with you and share any resources that might help you if you want to move forward trying to sell items (at no charge, of course). Just let me know if it's something you're interested in and I can send you my contact info.

I actually had a website that I sold things on, way before all these other places started becoming popular. I sold a variety of things I made, such as baby quilts (sort of like quilts), receiving blankets, wallets, bags, stationery, postcards, little notebooks, etc. Back then there were a lot of little websites like that and we would all trade our links to be displayed on each other's sites, so advertising was easy! I ended up closing it due to personal reasons though. For something like what I was talking about I was thinking maybe Etsy. I've actually thought about opening a shop on there for years, but just never did it. I don't think you have to pay money up front there. I know I won't make it rich or anything like that, but like you said.. just something a little extra I can use towards my trip!

You're right, there are no up front fees on Etsy other than a small listing fee. If I can help in any way, just let me know. I love helping to support small business owners!
