My Daddy was a Rockstar..

And that's why I hate illegally downloaded books.

Yeah, I know. Just wait for it...

Okay, so he was really more of a FOLK MUSICIAN, but still. I grew up in a house that was 100% funded by the money my dad made through his music. He booked 200 concerts a year for the first 13 years of my life and recorded and produced 10 albums. We counted on the ( Read more... )

Co-signed. Hearing 'you're not worth anything' in person, on twitter, anywhere - really, if one truly believes the work is worthless, leave it alone, do not do that to other people.

And co-signed on this being a job you never really get time off of. ;)

YES. Being behind the table also meant that I got to hear comments like, "Oh, that one isn't very good. I wouldn't waste money on it." Or, "His newer stuff just isn't for me."

And I was like, YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT MY DADDY, (PROFANITY HERE)!!

People just don't think about what they're saying. Sad.

With the increased accessability of music I've found it's easier to find music/bands that I never would have discovered with more 'traditional' methods (such as radio, which tends to play the same pathetic stuff, and looking at a CD wondering what it sounds like, then putting it back and going home to never find out if I would have liked it or not ( ... )

I do think alot of it comes down to the industries slowness to act, their aparent resistance to change and their greed when it comes to their share of profits, the music comparison is that i-tunes has become successful selling mp3's at a low price (in the UK a single would cost £3-5, you can download it from i-tunes for 79-99p) Go back to Borders and the ebook is normally $15.99 they are selling it at $9.29 yet the paperback is $7.99, Barnes & Noble are listing it at $6.15 on ebook. In comparison Borders are showing a bad case of greed, imagine if there was an i-tunes for books, or if amazon listed the ebook version and it was at $5-6 yes thats very cheap (but only a touch cheaper than the Barnes & Noble) but it's lower price could attract more buyers (increased sales means more money) and if it was a site which has worldwide branding (hence saying i-tunes equiv, and I've just found out there is an i-books, seriously they need to advertise better...) and in the public consciousness, amazon with kindle books is one of those things, (I' ( ... )

I get what you're trying to say. I too saw the CNET study, though I'm not sure a sampling of 500 really tells the whole story when we are watching the music industry lose profits every year and seeing the increase of torrent sites match that loss ( ... )
