this afternoon!  I want her to be vegan, but she will not be vegan tomorrow*, because I don't know enough about vegan cat diets yet, and keep running into the most idiotic things about cats and veganism while trying to learn about the subject.

I think it'll help my psychological state to list them and rant about them. you probably don't want to ( Read more... )

I really like the idea of getting non-factory-farmed, by-product meat based food. I don't like the idea of making a cat vegan. I don't think it would be good for the animal.

Anyway, yay for cats! There should definitely be pictures until I bicycle my way over to meet her :)

I never say "natural". I said "healthy". Humans are "naturally" carnivores, but can healthily live as vegans. But the cats I have known/heard of who were vegan were not healthy. If it's possible to do it without hurting the animal, great. If not, you're gonna have to kill a few fish. People who try to make their animals vegan at the expense of the animals' welfare incur my wrath, but from reading your earlier rant about obnoxious websites that tell you to starve your cat, you're not one of those people.

please contact a vet in your area with experience in vegan cats. I would hate for the cats digestive system to be messed up. Also find out what sort of damage it would do to out her back on meat if she becomes allergic to the vegan food. Some animals develop allergies to things as they get older and if their digestive sys. is like a humans at all, they may have painful times attempting to digest meat again, if she ever has to.

re: vets with experience.

well. a lot of this rant is on how difficult it is to find information. including information on vets with any relevant experience, as from what i hear and read, many folks with vegan cats just don't tell their vets, and many many vets are sponsored by some pet food corporation.

but yes. i wholeheartedly agree. it'd be splendid to find a vet who could give me good info on this. again, there is so much crap out there, and i'm looking for a vet with a brain, not a can of iams and a ribbon for mah cat.
