S. Africa More Progressive than the US

I just saw this article on msnbc and thought it was awesome how we think of S. Africa as like an underdeveloped country, yet they are more progressive than we are

the government shouldnt even marry people. they should just do civil unions. it further separates church and state (in a good way for once). the problem is that marriage from the government point of view and marriage from a religious point of view are two totally different things. people don't realize this because they're both called marriage (not just the conservatives, but the liberals are just as guilty), and i seriously doubt people ever will. anyways thats my pathetic excuse for a thought process.

Personally Id rather live in a country were I have running water and food then one where two guys can get married. Besides, thats gross.
