..also a nitpick, but in your footnotes, while Italy was in the Triple Alliance with the German and Austo-Hungarian Empires, it broke the alliance at the onset of WWI and was an Entente Power with Britain, France and Russia.

well, the most direct cause of the split was the hungarian plebiscite. though, as with most things, it's impossible to peg it to one direct cause. the entente definitely contributed, however.
