I think it's the first episode in a while that I was engrossed in (not exactly from the start because like you, I felt the teacher scene was a bit off, don't know if it was the acting or the directing though) and that I want to watch again on the same day ( ... )

Thanks :). I just watched it again and I think I liked it even better the second time around. I did feel the same about the opening scene though - the acting (not just the teacher but the students as well) seemed a bit off.

Upon re-watch, I noticed that when Dean was recapping what happened after Swan Song, he said "a friend of mine hooked me up with the unpublished unpublished books"... so from what I can figure out, the properly published books went up to No Rest for the Wicked, then the unpublished books (which everyone managed to read because Becky uploaded them) finished at Swan Song and then there were no more after that, which makes sense because that's when Chuck disappeared.

I was confused about the last name thing too. I'm guessing it's supposed to be explained by Marie's line in that scene about Chuck's Dark Side of The Moon being published and maybe their names are in that? But no one links their last name to those guys who were wanted by the FBI or from when Levi!Winchesters were robbing banks and stuff? Not exactly a common last name...

I loved everything else though. Especially the amulet stuff. Still confused about that weird CGI scene of the car driving off though. Was it supposed to look that fake? Like the brothers are driving back off into their 'fictional' world again?

As I just mentioned in my reply above, I re-watched the episode and Dean actually says: "a friend of mine hooked me up with the unpublished unpublished books", leading me to believe that the S4 and S5 books weren't actually published but were available online due to Becky- so that's how the girls knew what happened up to Swan Song. I guess he could have mentioned their names in those unpublished books... and in that case, since they were never officially published, their names wouldn't have been recognised by the FBI.

Having said that though, how is it that none of the fans of the books recognised them as being real due to their brushes with the law?

I didn't actually notice the scene of the car driving off looking fake, but on rewatch it does look a little odd... don't know what's up with that though.

I'd assume that the name Winchester would be in the bookversion of 'the monster at the end of the book', since it was mentioned that it was a book.

I think my only real qualm, is that once again, the Supernatural fan is portrayed as a Sam-girl. Just once I would have wanted to see an spn fangirl who's more into Dean than Sam. But that's just a small personal quibble.

Yes, that's a good point about The Monster at the End of this Book :).

Yeah, what is it with meta and Sam!Girls? I'm guessing maybe so we can see that kind of reaction from Dean? I don't know :P.

I loved the episode, I found it thoroughly enjoyable, I cried at Carry on my Wayward Son, I acreamed when Chuck turned up and I laughed several times.

I also cringed at the Destiel bit, but there will be some that liked that and after all it was an episode for the fans.

I know what you mean about the placement of the episode but with it being the 200th episode I suppose they had no choice, probably a reason why Deanmon was cured so early on, they couldn't have had this episode with Dean a demon.

I also wasn't looking forard to it but I will be rewatching it again that's for sure.

Your reaction pretty much mirrors mine! And I'm finding the more I think about it, the more I like what they did with this one, and am more and more inclined to handwave my quibbles (like Dean telling that girl a blow by blow account of their lives since Swan Song as if it really was just a story and not something he'd lived and full of people he loved dying - I mean would Dean REALLY do that ???). I think I need to sit back and accept this in the spirit it was intended - as a love song for us, the fans, from the show.
