“Kibum-ah, if one day, we can’t be together anymore, remember that I always loved you, forever and always.” Jinki broke off the hug and stared into Kibum’s eyes.
“No, you won’t leave me, I don’t allow you to say those sort of things!” Kibum said as tears started forming, threatening to fall any moment at the thought of the day when Kibum had to live without the love of my life.
“Okay okay! I was just kidding!” He wiped the tears off, “don’t be such a crybaby, all right?” Jinki then sat him on his lap and hugged him from his back.
Those were the nights that Kibum felt as if he was the luckiest person in the universe. It was difficult for Jinki and him. After all, Kibum was about to ascend the throne and Jinki, well he was just a soldier. Kibum’s father forbade him from meeting people of lower status then them. He only allowed Kibum to meet people of their statuses like the princess of Kilgron, prince of Meloney and others.
How did they met? Well, just say that one day, Kibum went to the imperial garden to pick some flowers while Jinki was on his way to run some errands. Jinki fell and Kibum helped him up. They fell in love in first sight.
They always arranged to meet at the garden after 11p.m. That was the time where all the guards would be done patrolling that area and it was the perfect time for them to meet without being afraid that they would be caught. It’s against the law for a lowly soldier to actually fall in love and get into a relationship with a royalty. Anyone found guilty of that would be beheaded.
The only person who knew about their relationship was Jonghyun. He was Kibum’s assistant cum best friend. They had been friends since they were in their diapers and Kibum told Jonghyun almost everything. Jonghyun was the one who planned the secret meetings too.
Unfortunately, they weren’t able to keep this under the blanket for long. Kibum’s father soon found out about their secret meetings. He forbade them from meeting each other, sending Kibum to other countries to meet princesses as he would ascend the throne once he got married. From a lowly, normal soldier, Jinki became a highly respected and recognized General after he was promoted. Both of them were so busy, they never had the time to meet each other.
Kibum soon became depressed and refused to meet anybody if his father do not allow him to meet Jinki. Of course, Kibum’s father soon gave in as he did not have the heart to see his son so depressed. They were allowed to meet each other once again, cuddle under the big tree and whisper sweet nothings into each other’s ear.
But their happiness was short-lived. War soon came their way and once again, they were separated. As the General, Jinki had to lead the troops. Kibum begged his father not to allow Jinki into the battle. However, seeing this as a great chance to separate the both of them, Kibum’s father disagreed.
All Kibum could do was pray for his safety, pray that he would not be killed and nothing would go wrong. However, his prayers were not answered. Jinki died in the battle.
Kibum cried uncontrollably. He cried every single night for two weeks. No matter how much his father begged him to speak, he wouldn’t speak. Soon, Kibum felt drained and slowly slipped into unconsciousness.
A bright light blinded him and he was thrown into a garden. The exact same setting when he and Jinki would always have their secret meeting.
“Jinki!” Kibum shouted and happily ran into Jinki’s arm and hugged him tightly, “I miss you, Jinki-ah. Didn’t you promise to come back safely? Why did you die! Why!” Tears streamed down Kibum’s cheeks as he hit Jinki’s chest.
“One day, all of us will part. It’s just the matter of time, right?” Jinki smiled, and released the hug, “Kibum-ah, you still have the chance to live! Why wouldn’t you eat and speak to anyone!”
“Father caused you to die! I hate him, I don’t want to live anymore! All I want is to be with you!”
“No he didn’t, my dear. I am the General after all, the soldiers need me to command. I am willing to die for the country. Live for my sake, please?”
“But Jinki-“
“No more arguing, I have to go now. I will see you in the next dreams. But till then, you would have to take your meals and get married with your future wife. You have to ascend the throne.” Jinki said as he disappeared.
“JINKI-AH!” Kibum screamed and he woke up from his sleep.
Tears unknowingly, rolled down his face. “I have to live for Jinki. Yes I must!” From then on, Kibum could only meet Jinki in his dreams. They had their dates in a secret place that no one would ever know.
Since fate and destiny wouldn’t allow them to be together and if dreaming is the only way I can be close to you, how I wished I will never wake up from my dream, so that I can be with you together, forever and always. I promise to love you forever and always.
