Smells like a Teen Soap Fandom

I haven't really put up my thoughts on the last two episodes of Riverdale because I needed to formulate my thoughts. The fandom has literally gone to the dogs in the last two weeks. I am seeing many of the same symptoms I saw with gossip girl in regards to DS with bughead. The exception primarily being that they are more popular. It seems people ( Read more... )

I'm incredibly behind on "Riverdale" but I get what you are saying with regards to unrealistic expectations when it comes to certain characters and their respective behaviour patterns. It can be very frustrating to watch how this is polarizing a fandom.

Yeah, I hate when fandoms get like that, but its the nature of fannish activity. BTW who is that in your icon?

Yes, it is the nature of fannish activity - perhaps because you gather in this niche along with other people... then again, it often makes me wonder if these people do apply the same unattainable ideals to people in real life. If so it must be a lonely existence. That being said, I really need to catch up on "Riverdale" eventually.

Oh, my default icon? It's my OTP from "Upstairs, Downstairs (2010)", Sir Hallam Holland (Ed Stoppard) and Lady Persephone Towyn (Claire Foy).

Did I ghostwrite this? LOL. This is pretty much my exact thoughts on the fandom at large right now. I haven't written a post yet for last weeks episode, but everything was too easily fixed for things not to blow up in both their faces later on. I also feel like Jug being in a gang is going to cause a lot of tension in their relationship going forward. That's not even counting his thing with Toni. Toni might have put the breaks on it and stated a preference for girls, but that doesn't mean it isn't there ( people that think this don't get what bisexual even means, imo ). I don't think they'll have Jug cheat but I don't really think that particular storyline is done the way some people do.

But, I also think that the narrative choice is interesting. It's almost laying the ground work for another split but this time for it to be Jughead's "fault" and I use that term looselyExactly. We literally saw none of their discussion about what happened and it was just tacked on to the end of the episode. Look guys, they are OK.. but it felt very ( ... )
