This kinda reminds me of a book I came across a long while back on how to be a "proper wife."
It involved things like "make sure too have dinner ready when he gets home, he's had a long hard day at work, and would like to eat right away." and "don't start talking about your day immediately when he gets home, your husband's day was much more stressful and the last thing he wants is to be barraged with your trivial complaints."

Something to that effect.
