I think the ipod uses mpeg4 files and something else, but I'd suggest using Magic Video Converter, that's what I use to change stuff into a file format that works on my PS3. It's basic and real simple to use :)

Thanks for the info! I'll try to look for Magic Video Converter using Google. :)

Sorry to bother you again. The site that I've found for Magic Video Converter seems to have a bad reputation (according to web of trust, one of my Mozilla Addons), and it appears that they have only a paid version.

Is there a free video converter out there?

Ahh...I never pay for software, I just use torrent sites and do illegal downloads :P

STOP RIGHT THERE!

The iPod is probably the worst choice ever for a portable player, and iTunes the worst choice of computer-based player. AVOID IT! Unless you're going to replace the firmware with RockBox, that is.

I'd go for absolutely anything else, and it seems the best choice (if you're not too fussed about drive space) is the Cowon iAudio D2. I know someone who's got one and it's the only player that's ever come remotely close to replacing his iRiver H320.

I have an iRiver H340 which is the greatest of them all, but even second hand on eBay it's still rather expensive.
