I finally caved

My friends are always saying they’re amazed I don’t buy up every new piece of tech at the first opportunity. I try to explain: there’s no point buying it if I’m not going to use it enough to justify the cost. It’s enough for me to know what it is and how it works. I actually feel bad for anyone who went to Blackberry and is now on contract since they're going to become even worse and shut down within the next two years :/ Info coming from my mate's husband who works for RIM in Ontario. It's part of why I did the emerg switch to iPhone and wound up paying a lot.

Thankfully, with the switch, the only one of Ofelia's kids that was on a contract is now on a tab with Wind. The rest of us are on a tab or prepaid. Not sure about Dean's friends, but they are big boys and girls and will figure something out.

I have friends who work at RIM too. They're more optimistic about its future, just not with its current structure/goals. Though I haven't had a chance to talk in-depth about it to them privately to see how far that goes.

Honestly, our main motivating factor was that Dean's friends communicate through a BBM group, and we were tired of getting that info secondhand, or not at all. We went into this knowing RIM is having problems but with the assumption that if they go under, BBM will be gone for all of them and they'll have to use something else. If that happens, we're left with phones that cost us $50 and are more useful than our previous phones, since these can use wifi and our Keybo2s couldn't.
