Alone...
Doubted...
All my life, I’ve experienced that, even those who I’ve trusted doubted me, all those people I loved betrayed me, leaving me all alone with this curse!
Freak...
Weirdo...
Devil...
Witch...
All my life people call me that. The world rejected me indeed, and I blame this curse for these things happening to me. I don’t even like this ability. Seeing the dead? Feeling, hearing them?
Friends?
My friends didn’t believe me at all, even if I try to explain everything to them, they won’t listen. I guess because of that I stopped believing in the word “friend”.
Family?
My mom died in giving birth to me. My dad? Well he left me as soon as he found out this weird ability of mine, leaving me with my cousin’s care, mother side that is. He thought of me as a curse the reason why our business dropped. Well, I guess there is only one person who never left me, never doubted me, for he understands. My cousin, Takaki Yuya...

I closed my eyes, waiting for myself to fall into a deep slumber...
....
As I opened my eyes, I’m in the same place again, a place where terror awaits. In the midst of nowhere, surrounded by rotten bodies, with the feeling of burning souls in pain, I stood quietly. In front of me there’s a lake, dark red with a foul smell, smell of rust, smell of blood. Every now and then I will dream this situation. At first I was terrified but eventually I came to get used to it, little by little I’m being able to overcome the fear. But still, the feeling of loneliness didn’t leave me. I’m drowning in my own sorrow.
I sat down on the wet, dirty soil, hugging my knees, crying my eyes out. Feeling the cold, the wet breeze and the darkness around me, I hugged my knees tighter, trying my best to resist the pain and the cold. I can’t believe this, even in my sleep I can’t take a rest.
Sobbing... Crying...
I felt someone tapping me. I looked up and saw a woman around her 30’s, looking at me with her gorgeous eyes, with her long silky brown hair falling by her shoulders. This is the first time I felt like someone is concern about me aside from Yuya. She wiped my tears and hugged me tightly. I pushed her gentle. I stared at her with questions in my eyes.
“Yui...” I heard her sweet, soft voice.
I looked at her in disbelief. I can’t understand why she knew my name. There is something inside me, telling me that I know her somewhere. She caressed my cheeks and spoke,
“Yui, we never met, but you’re a part of me, and I’m a part of you...” she smiled at me, as she gave me a locket.
“That’s mine, why do you have this?” I exclaimed as I snatched it away from her.
“You really give importance to it, don’t you?” She said with the same smile.
“Of course, this is the only thing I have as a memory of my mom.” I replied as I lowered my head. I hugged the locket closed to my heart where it truly belongs.
“Yes, I really did give that to you.” She exclaimed as she lifted my chin, eyeing me down my soul.
“Mom?” I exclaimed, breathless.
“Yes... I can’t blame you for not recognizing me. You never met me before. I died on you.” She added. I can feel the sadness within her voice. I curiously looked at her. I still do want to know more. As I continued to stare at her, tears started to form by the edges of my eyes, that in one blink, they will eventually fall. But I believe these tears are not formed because of sadness. It’s what they call tears of joy.
Happiness...
I stood up and hugged her tightly, never want to let go...
“Yui, don’t misunderstand your ability. I have the same talent. Your father didn’t know it. I’m sorry if you were abandoned, there’s a reason why you have such kind of ability. Remember that, everything happens for a reason.” She exclaimed, kissed my forehead. Soon enough I opened my eyes again and she was gone.
“Mom!” my voice roared the whole area. “Why leave me mom?” I whispered in despair.
I ran, I swam, searching for her. I don’t want the loneliness I felt before to come back, I need her. But it was useless. As I searched the lake, I felt something holding me by my feet, pulling me under. I tried to push myself up but it was useless, the hands holding me are too strong. I tried to open my eyes but the only thing I saw was terror. Pale looking faces surrounding me, with agony and despair. Before I knew it I was held by all of them by my arms, wrist, feet, legs, waist, even my hair. They’re pulling me as if I’m some sort of food and they’re some hungry beast. I closed my eyes, letting myself drown, letting them get me...
....
“Yui!” I heard someone shouting my name, shaking me off. I opened my eyes and saw nii-chan, Yuya with a worried face. He held my face and wiped my tears out.
I cried... again... in my sleep...
“What happened to you?” He exclaimed, as he hugged me tightly.
But I kept quiet and answered him nothing. I tried to paint a smile as I hope it would calm him down.
“Nothing, I just had my regular dream.” I lied and put on a smile. He looked at me in disbelief but eventually his eyes softened. He messed with my hair and he chuckled.
“Don’t make me worry again alright?” He exclaimed as he stood up.
“I won’t promise you anything ne~?” I replied with a smirk, he laughed at me. A laughter that is like music in my ears, the only sound that will calm me.
“Ma, I better get ready to work. I prepared your breakfast. Eat it.” Yuya gave me his last words before he finally left the room. Letting me be engulfed by silence. I rise up from my bed but as I stood up something fell from my neck. I picked it up and saw my locket. I hurried to wipe it gently, making sure that it was not damaged. I sighed in relief for it is still fine.
“Everything happens for a reason...” Her voice once again crossed my mind.
“I hope it does” I whispered before finally left my room.
