Character Background: Bonten was taken in and raised by a powerful demon named Byakuroku, the leader of the demons as Heaven's Seat. Now, at that time Bonten had no name, and was simply referred to as 'Hiwa' (much to his chagrin). Hiwa was powerless without Byakuroku's protection. But even with Byakuroku's name to save him, the other ayakashi only addressed him in a respectful yet mocking way. They knew he was destined to one day hold Heaven's Seat, but they also knew he was powerless.

To prove his power to the other demons, he decided to try and kill the High Priestess of Sakigami Shrine, Ginshu. But he failed terribly when it was revealed that she had blood that is poisonous to demons. At the same, Ginshu was someone outside the ayakashi power struggle that was willing to just talk with him. An ayakashi even attempted to use Hiwa as bait to get to the Priestess, and afterward Ginshu hid Hiwa within the shrine to nurse him back to health. They spent a winter playing games that followed unspoken rules between them and grew close.

Around this time, Hiwa is also forced to become the beast ayakashi tied, to the offspring of Byakuroku's tree, Tsuyukusa.

When Shinshu, the real High Priestess that was and always will be a child, got lost in the woods, it sparked a war between the shrine and the forest ayakashi. Bonten and Ginshu came upon the battle, Byakuroku holding Shinshu captive on one side and the shrine maidens on the other.

Ginshu sacrifices himself for Shinshu, accepting death gratefully. And since her blood was poisonous to ayakashi, Byakuroku is taken down with him. Bonten was forced to face the idea of losing the two most important people in his life, and during the entire battle was frozen, unable to fight on either side. Even if he hadn't realized it then, Bonten was moved by Teiten's hand to save Ginshu by placing his spirit into Byakuroku's body. Shinshu had grown too attached to Ginshu himself, and as the real High Priestess and mover of Heaven's Net was able to bring about this change of fate through Bonten, who was given the power of foresight and the ability to read Heaven's Net.

--

After the incident in the forest, Bonten took over Byakuroku's place as Heaven's Seat, reading and interpreting Heaven's Net. Ginshu and Bonten no longer had the same relationship they did in the past, and instead they were pitted against eachother on two sides of a war. Bonten wishes to preserve Amatsuki the way it is by placing Tokidoki Rikugou, the Unwritten Page, in Teiten's place. Ginshu, on the other hand, is opposed to this and wishes for nothing but the end to it all.

They both competed for influence over Toki's power, but Ginshu jumped the gun and took on Teiten herself. This caused a reset in Amatsuki. Everything was restarted, reordered, and almost all memory of the old Amatsuki was forgotten. Toki ended up stuck with Bonten, Utsubushi, and Tsuyukusa. All of them seem to be the only people who remember.

Directly after the reset is when Bonten faints and is where I've taken him from.

Abilities/Special Powers: As one of the four Holy Ones, Bonten is perhaps the most powerful ayakashi, specifically a tengu, in the world he comes from. He holds the place of Heaven's Seat, inherited from Byakuroku, and has the ability to read fate and interpret Teiten's web, the Heaven's Net. Bonten can also produce protective charms, and has a connection to the supernatural world that gives him the ability to communicate with ayakashi and other spirits.

Third-Person Sample:
Bonten took in his surroundings with a frown. This was not at all where he had expected to awaken. In fact, he thought as he noted the architecture, this didn't even look like any part of his dear Amatsuki. A western style, most definitely. This was not only not his own country, but also not his own world.

Suddenly, Bonten's frown deepened. He noticed that his sense of Heaven's Net was blurred by some unknown force, and it made the blond uneasy. It had been a long time since he'd felt a lack of sight even to this degree. Bonten realized then that it had become almost natural to him, although not nearly to the extent that it was for Byakuroku. For that, he was grateful.

Ah. Byakuroku. Ginshu. Tsuyukusa. Even Toki. Bonten did not dwell on thoughts of them. They simply flitted across his mind, but he shoved their memories smoothly to the back of his thoughts. Bonten was in an unfamiliar territory and he couldn't afford to to get caught up in his own thoughts.

Crossing his arms, he scanned the visible length of the hallway. It seemed to wind on forever, the room numbers rising impossibly as he walked by them. He stopped with an annoyed sigh, turning on his heel. The rooms would surely go on longer than he cared to walk, and besides, he was interested to see what he would find at the lower end of the hall when the numbers would inevitably end. Exploring was definitely more his style than simply standing around like some poor lost fool.

He had the decency to look like he knew where he was going, his chin upward in a defiant gesture. If someone had the gall to bring him somewhere against his will, then he was damn well not going to give them the satisfaction of seeing him ruffled. The most they would get out of him was the suspicious and cautious glint to his eyes and the permanent, displeased frown that marred his features.

Bonten raised an eyebrow at the pretentiously grand staircase as he came upon it. Not entirely disagreeable, he conceded nonetheless. It was much better than an apocalyptic ruin, which was definitely the worst case scenario. His hand fell gracefully on the banister as he took the steps downward one by one, his bare feet hitting the ground soundlessly. His other arm rested across his stomach, not caring as his kimono fell to expose his shoulders and the black garment below.

Well, regardless of why he was here or who had brought him here, they did have some semblance of taste. That much he could say for them. But that certainly wouldn't stop him from wanting answers.

[[ not necessarily the Wonderland mansion, but still an unknown plaaaace ]]

First-Person Sample:
This is obviously not my own world. How very inconvenient.
I cannot feel the presence of Heaven's Net, nor can I sense much else.

It feels empty.

I demand an explanation for this, dammit.
Utsubushi, Tsuyukusa, if you idiots have anything to do with this you're going to regret it.

Did the Unwritten Page spin a new web while I was passed out, or does Teiten's web simply not extend to this world?
